New Infrastructure Victoria report calls for stamp duty reform

Infrastructure Victoria has released a report that calling for stamp duty reform. REIV CEO Kelly Ryan provided commentary on the in-depth report, noting,

“As a long-time advocate for property tax reform, the Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) welcomes Infrastructure Victoria’s findings regarding the negative impacts of stamp duty on housing affordability made in its Victoria’s draft 30-year infrastructure strategy released yesterday. The REIV considers stamp duty a fundamentally inefficient tax that restricts investment and mobility in Victoria’s property market and strongly supports its removal.

Having advocated in favour of a broad-based property tax as an alternative taxation source, the REIV calls on the Victorian Government to engage with sector stakeholders and experts in conducting a comprehensive review of Victoria’s property taxation system.”
