Victorian Auctioneer of the Year prepares for Good Friday Appeal Home

Paul Tzamalis, director of The Auction Company and 2024 REIV Auctioneer of the Year, is gearing up to make history once again – this time with even greater personal significance.

Tzamalis, a two-time REIV Auctioneer of the Year, led the Good Friday Appeal home to its first-ever million-dollar sale in 2022, achieving a record $1,082,000. This year, as he prepares to become a father for the first time, the importance of supporting The Royal Children’s Hospital has never felt more profound.

“Unless you’ve had to deal with The Royal Children’s, we kind of take it for granted, but it is such an integral part of the fabric of families in Victoria,” Tzamalis says.

“The safety net it provides makes us one of the luckiest places in the world. Hopefully, you’ll never need to use it.”

This year’s home is a stunning 7-star Juno 442-D48 from Henley, located on a 512sqm lot generously donated by Villawood Properties in Armstrong, Mount Duneed – one of Victoria’s most sought-after communities.

Boasting 47 squares of luxury, the home features:

  • Grand master suite with dressing room, walk-in robe, private retreat and spacious ensuite

  • Ground floor and first floor study spaces

  • Walk-in robes in all bedrooms and extensive built-in storage throughout

  • Expansive kitchen and butler’s pantry, perfect for entertainers

  • Wine room, large living areas and first floor leisure space

  • Fully furnished and professionally landscaped

Tzamalis says auctioning the 2022 GFA Home gave him a great insight into just how vital a role the hospital plays. But he’s known since he was a child that it’s a crucial facility for parents.

“I was taken there myself, with asthma, as a kid,” he says. “It’s a very important back-up for parents, definitely, and we’re blessed to have its services available.”

Beyond the premium inclusions, Tzamalis sees his role as painting a picture of what this home means for its future owner.

“They’ll already know the features,” he says. “When they’re bidding, my job is to put them in the home, as if they can already see their kids in the local school, see themselves driving into the garage.”

REIV CEO Kelly Ryan commended the Henley and Villawood teams, stating, “I am truly in awe of the dedication and effort these organizations put into raising funds for such a worthy cause. It is inspiring to see everyone unite in support of the incredible work done by the Royal Children’s Hospital.

"I have no doubt that Paul will give his absolute best to achieve the best possible outcome on the day. The REIV is proud to contribute to this remarkable initiative.”

The Good Friday Appeal home will go under the hammer on Good Friday, 18 April, at 19 Electric Crescent, Mount Duneed. A giant family street party with food stalls, kids’ rides, music and entertainment is expected to draw up to 1000 people.

The no-reserve auction means the home can sell for any price, with 100 per cent of proceeds going to The Royal Children’s Hospital.
